Beats
Flex

What can I say? I love these. Better than my AirPods Pro 3, and I never leave home without them.

My black Beats Flex hung round the neck of a green 3D-printed alien bust wearing a gold chain, against a red smoky background.
Even the alien wears them.

The short version

The good

  • Joined by a cord, so they can’t fall down the toilet or get lost
  • Comfortable enough to sleep in, ear on the pillow
  • Podcasts sound better than on my AirPods Pro 3
  • Pair easily with iPhone and Android
  • Battery has never run out on me
  • Only £50
  • Snap the earbuds together and the music stops

The not so good

  • Sound is a little dialled down
  • Not much bass
  • The volume buttons can be fiddly, so I use my phone

Who it’s for

Anyone who wants earphones they can wear all day, sleep in and never lose. Especially if you mostly listen to podcasts and calls.

£50 Round my neck every day for 5 months.

Five months with them

Goodbye, AirPods

I bought the Beats Flex about five months ago. Since then, I don’t think I’ve used my AirPods Pro 3 more than twice.

That says it all really.

On a cord, end to end

Because they’re joined by a cord, you’re not worrying about one falling down the toilet when you go, or losing one.

I never leave home without them. They’re always round my neck, ready to go.

The Beats Flex held in my hand, the two earbuds clipped together by their magnets, with the cord looped either side.
The earbuds snap together with magnets.

You can sleep in them

They’re easy to sleep with. I lie with my ear on the pillow and my ear doesn’t hurt.

That’s not something the AirPods Pro 3 manage at all.

The sound

The sound is a little dialled down, but it sits at a comfortable level. For podcasts I’d say they sound better than the AirPods.

The bass is dialled down too. But why do you need to hear bass while someone is talking?

The Bluetooth isn’t in your ear

The electronics sit in the cord, not right inside your ear. Being honest, I don’t know what to believe about having Bluetooth that close to your head.

But I do feel better with the Beats on than I do with the AirPods.

Day to day

There’s an Apple chip inside, and they pair very easily with iPhones, and with Android too.

The battery lasts a good while. I just charge them when I remember, and they’ve never run out on me.

Call quality is good. I can hear people, and they can hear me.

The volume buttons on the cord work, but they can be a bit fiddly, so I usually change the volume on my phone.

When you’ve finished with a call or music, you take them out of your ears and the earbuds snap together with the magnets inside. That stops the music.
