MAD RANT Reviews
I buy it. I use it for weeks. Then I tell you what I really think.

Most reviews online are sponsored, gifted or rushed. Mine are none of those.
I pay for it
Every product is bought with my own money. Nobody sends me freebies and nobody pays for a good word.
I test it for weeks
First impressions are easy. I use things over time, in real life, until the problems show up.
I show my numbers
Where something can be measured, I measure it and publish the results, good or bad.
The reviews
Every product here was bought and tested by me. Pick one to read.
Bluetti Apex 300
My house battery. 3,840W running all my servers and PC on 2,000W of solar by day and Economy 7 by night. Plus the free app I built when Bluetti’s wouldn’t work.
Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO
The best-sounding headphones I’ve used, better than my Bose and Sony. Three years every day, no signs of wear. Plus which ohm version to buy.
GL.iNet Flint 2
One of the best routers, I’d say. 1,350Mbps over WireGuard, covers almost the whole house, and about £129. Perfect for a 1G connection.
Raspberry Pi 500+
£85 on eBay. 16GB, overclocked and never over 55°C, with a keyboard you want to keep typing on. At today’s £400, buy a Mac mini instead.
Minisforum MS-A2
A Ryzen 9 beast running pfSense, containers and VMs all at once. 90°C until I re-pasted it. Total overkill for a home lab, and I wouldn’t buy it again.
Beats Flex
£50, bought by me. Five months round my neck every day. Comfy enough to sleep in, can’t fall down the toilet, and I’ve barely touched my AirPods Pro 3 since.
GL.iNet Mudi 7
A 5G WiFi 7 travel router, tested camping against my Starlink. 1.5Gbps on strong 5G, ten times my phone at the campsite, and a battery that lasts all day.
Bluetti Elite 200 V2
£949, bought by me. A year of all-electric camping, then 11 months powering my PC and homelab 24/7. Still at 97% battery health.
Sonos Beam (Gen 2)
£339 on offer. Almost two years of daily use with my OLED TV. Underwhelming at first, brilliant once you turn it up.
Fenix CL26R Pro & E35R
Not your usual review. A lantern and a torch, almost two years of midnight dog walks and camping. The only torches you’ll ever want.
UniFi U7 Pro (WiFi 7)
Two access points, one each side of the house. Full 1.6Gb speed anywhere indoors, and nobody moans about the WiFi any more.
GL.iNet Slate 7
A year and a bit with a WiFi 7 travel router. Brilliant on Starlink in the car, then the updates came and it let me down when I needed it most.
